Clinical Medical Assistant Program

Our nine-month hands-on Clinical Medical Assistant Program includes the following courses. The program also includes preparation for the American Medical Certification Association Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC), EKG Technician Certification (ETC), Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PTC) Exam, American Heart Association CPR Certification, Job Placement Assistance.

After completion of the program and passing the CMAC, ETC, PTC Exam graduates are qualified to work in any medical office as a front or back-office assistant including all specialties, such as physician offices, chiropractic offices, hospitals, optometrist, and outpatient care centers. Our students are thoroughly prepared in all aspects of assisting.

Course Title: Medical Terminology

Students will be introduced to the Anatomy of word construction. Learning the meanings of combining forms, suffixes and prefixes of the medical language, students will learn to use combining form to build and understand medical terms, as well as an introduction to the musculoskeletal system.

Course Title: Anatomy and Physiology

Students will be introduced to the study of the human body and the basic structure of cells, tissues, and organs. They will learn the structure and function of the integumentary muscular, nervous, and skeletal systems.

Course Title: Principles of Asepsis, Vital Signs

Students will learn the Medical Assistants Role in Infection Control they will be able to differentiate medical and surgical asepsis, as well as describe the procedures for sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization. Students will learn to prepare the exam and treatment room accordingly they will learn to document patient health history and prepare patient for exam. Students will learn to take a patient Blood Pressure, Temperature, Pulse and Respirations

Course Title: EKG, CPR/First Aid

Students will learn how to perform an EKG they will learn to describe and identify the components of an electrocardiograph; student will be able to identify various types of artifact and potential equipment problems and how to correct them. Students will learn to perform CPR and emergency first aid.

Course Title: Law & Ethics, Medical Administrative Office

Students will learn the Laws governing patient right HIPPA, medical malpractice, professional liability, and labor and employment laws. They will learn the basis of the Administrative Medical Office by learning the office equipment and how to maintain it, student will learn how to schedule patients and start a patient charts they will learn how to differentiate among the various insurance and managed care options, how to locate correct procedure code complete forms and submit to insurance.

Course Title: Phlebotomy

Students will be trained to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and precautions including vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture specimen collection and urinalysis. Student will be taught infection prevention, proper patient identification, proper labeling of specimens, students.

Course Title: Pharmacology, Career Planning

Students will learn the principals of Pharmacology with an introduction to basic pharmacology math, common drugs abbreviations, and contrast over the counter and prescription drugs the five categories of pharmacology, major drug categories, and schedule of drugs and differentiate between chemical, generic, trade name drugs.

Course Title: Externship

Students will be expected to perform certain administrative and clinical duties under the direction and guidance of a healthcare supervisor.

What is the Medical Assisting program?

A program whose goal is to prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains.

What will I learn?

You will learn both the administrative and clinical procedures required to be performed in the physician’s office. The student will learn manual scheduling, bookkeeping, medical records maintenance, and medical insurance claims. In addition, the medical assistant will be able to function within a computerized office management system performing scheduling, billing, collections and electronic medical records. Clinically you will learn and perform EKGs, urinalysis, phlebotomy, injections, assisting with minor surgery, casting, wound care, eye/ear irrigation, urinary catheterization, vital signs, pulmonary functions tests, measuring infants and much more.

What can I do with this course of study?

Medical Assistants can work in a variety of health care settings. The most common is in a physician’s office and hospitals. This occupation is predicted to be in high demand through 2029.
